Children's Act 1989
is designed to help keep children safe and well and, if necessary, help a child to live with their family by providing services appropriate to the child's needs.
Children's Act 2004
provides the legal underpinning for the transformation of children's services as set out in the Every Child Matters: Change for Children programme. Section 10 of the Act provides the statutory basis for Children's Trusts (the duty to cooperate).
Disability Discrimination Act 2005
is a piece of legislation that promotes civil rights for disabled people and protects disabled people from discrimination. You can order a copy of the Act in a range of formats.
Disability Discrimination Act 2005 Explanatory notes
These explanatory notes relate to the Disability Discrimination Act.  They aim to assist the reader of the Act and to help inform debate on it. They do not form part of the Act and have not been endorsed by Parliament.

National Service Framework for Children, Young People and Maternity Services (NSF)
establishes clear standards for promoting the health and well-being of children and young people and for providing high quality services that meet their needs.

Improving the Life Chances of Disabled People
sets out the Government's long-term vision that by 2025, disabled people in Britain should have full opportunities and choices to improve their quality of life and will be respected and included as equal members of society.
Better Care: Better Lives (2008)
sets out the vision that every child and young person with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition will have equitable access to high-quality, family-centred, sustainable care and support, with service provided in a setting of choice, according to the child and family's wishes.
Healthy lives, brighter futures: The strategy for children and young people's health (2009)
sets out the Government's strategy to improve health outcomes for all children and young people. This includes a chapter on children with acute and additional health needs.

Carers at the Heart of 21st Century Families and Communities
sets out a strategy that by 2018, carers will be universally recognised and valued as being fundamental to strong families and stable communities.

Learning and Living for Work
aims to ensure that young people and adults in England will have the knowledge and skills to match the best in the world and be part of a competitive workforce.
