In 2003 The Audit Commission carried out a project to find out what services were available to disabled children and young people in England and Wales, and what they were like. They then produced a report about what was good and bad, a handbook for managers and staff to help them make services better, a set of fact sheets for families and an accessible version of the report for children.
The fact sheets for parents cover a number of issues and offer useful advice. Download the fact sheets and reports from the Audit Commission website.
Extending Inclusion, Access for disabled children and young people to extended schools and children's centres
The Council for Disabled Children (CDC) undertook a project to identify effective practice in including disabled children and young people in children's centres and extended schools. This document was commissioned by Sure Start, Early Support and the DCSF, to review their access and inclusion.
