Services for Disabled Children |
An information directory called 'Services for Disabled Children in Sunderland, Information for parents and carers' was widely available but the need for this to be updated and redesigned was identified. It was agreed that as well as needing a new name the document would benefit from being presented in a different way. |

Original Signposting Booklet
|
The document is intended to help parents and carers find the kind of help and support they need and to see what services are available to them. Information contained has been gathered from various agencies including all Sunderland City Council Directorates, Health, Nexus as well as the voluntary and community sector.
Both the original version of the signposting booklet and the new Support Guide are available here for you to compare how we have enhanced the information contained as well as completely changing the format and presentation. We hope you like the new design and find the document useful. Please let us know what you think. |

New Support Guide |
The new document went out to parents/carers for consultation and all comments and feedback were taken into account.
The final document was printed at the beginning of May and will be distributed widely to parents/carers To submit your comments or to request a paper copy of the document, please use the feedback form. |

October 2009
Sunderland Disabled Children Website |
A need for the existing website to be updated had been identified and it was decided that parents and carers as the primary audience for the site should have a large say in the design, style, look and content of the new site. |
Consultation consisted of:
- Several informal consultation sessions were held
- Parents and carers sessions were kept totally separate from sessions for professionals
- All sessions were held at different times of the day and at different locations across the city
- An anonymous e-voting questionnaire activity was used to gather views, opinions and requirements
- General discussions took place around what parents expectations were of a website and information in general
- Examples of other existing websites were compared
- A paper based questionnaire was also circulated
|
Some of the things parents, carers or professionals asked for:
- A new more user friendly domain name for the site
- Good clean looking site - nothing too crowded or fussy
- Easy user-friendly navigation system
- Good choice of useful information
- Clear sections
- Condition specific health information
- A separate section for children and young people that would contain good quality, relevant, safe content
